Kenilworth & Southam PPC Jenny Wilkinson was a guest speaker at the Climate Justice Rally in Leamington Spa.
The Liberal Democrat PPC for Kenilworth & Southam set out the case for urgent action in Warwickshire and across the whole of the UK, calling on government, local councils, businesses, communities and households to ensure that all relevant decisions make progress towards the net zero objective.
In her speech, Jenny also addressed the ecological emergency, from the state of our rivers to the decline of species across the UK. "Biodiversity is declining at a faster rate than at any time in human history. The science is clear. Urgent action is required."
"So it's great news that, last month, Warwick District Council, unanimously declared an Ecological Emergency. Following on from their declaration of a Climate Emergency in 2019. And, most importantly, the Council is not only declaring an emergency but is preparing a credible plan of action. This is alongside efforts of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, numerous charities and community groups, many gardeners, allotment holders and some local farmers who are actively engaged in trying to improve biodiversity across the District."
Jenny concluded with a call to action. "As the saying goes, the best time to take action was yesterday; the second best time is now. So let's act now."
