Our Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Kenilworth & Southam, Jenny Wilkinson, has slammed the Conservative Government for failing to tackle ongoing sewage dumping in our rivers and has given her whole-hearted support to Wellesbourne Councillors, David Johnston and George Cowcher who have drawn attention to the scandal of sewage dumping as it affects Wellesbourne.
There was 76.8% increase in hours of sewage dumped by Severn Trent Water last year.
This includes 93 occasions, lasting over 1,460 hours, of discharge from the Wellesbourne Sewage Treatment Works into the River Dene.
South Warwickshire Liberal Democrats are calling for tougher action against sewage dumping in local rivers, and a ban on bonuses for water company bosses whose firms have dumped sewage into waterways.
Jenny Wilkinson said,
It’s a scandal that filthy sewage is being pumped into South Warwickshire’s rivers, including the Dene and Avon. Local people are furious that the Conservative Government, including our current MP, Jeremy Wright, blocked tougher action to tackle the problem. This is just the latest in a long line of Conservative failures. Britain deserves better than this shambles of a Conservative Government.
